The Chihuahua was named after the Mexican State where they were first obtained. The date back as far as the 9 th Century AD.

Recognized by the AKC in 1904, they originally were smooth coated but as they were cross bred with other dog breeds a long coated form appeared. Chihuahua's are loyal by nature and dislike the cold weather, small dog sweaters and clothing are appropriate.

One point of distinction is their vulnerability regarding their heads. Instead of having a solid skull casing Chihuahua's have an opening on the top of their head called a molera, it's similar to that of a new born baby and never ossifies leaving their brain vulnerable to blows, care should be taken.

This is Baby Boy, who is now five and not a Baby anymore, but he don't mind the Baby Boy name. Thunder is behind him, they are both long haired Chihuahuas.

You are welcome to use whichever ones you want, and trim any if necessary. My name is Stacy Hart, and I love Chihuahuas. My son's name is Luis, and he loves his two Chi's as well. He is only four, but they love him, he is gentle with them and they really love when he has hot-dogs, because he likes to share.
